M-LISADA’s Cultural Dance & Education program was created to empower young girls who, although encouraged by M-LISADA to join M-LISADA’s Brass Band, were shy and discouraged by the surrounding community. The cultural dance program, which welcomes boys as well as girls, teaches children and youth about music, their own heritage, and dances from other parts of Uganda. Dancing is a big part of the cultural fabric of Uganda, and is a way of learning, interacting, and expressing oneself. Children gain the opportunity to learn about and be proud of different Ugandan cultures and learn valuable skills by performing in a group. In addition to cultural dance, creative dance, break dancing, and ballet are taught at M-LISADA.

M-LISADA also has an Acrobatics and Contortion Team that performs regularly with M-LISADA’s Brass Band and Cultural Dance Troupe. The Acrobatics and Contortion Team grew out of M-LISADA’s desire to differentiate their marching and band performances from other brass bands.
